The Kalra Family Foundation seeks to recognize and award students of upstanding character who actively unite and enhance Hillsborough High School’s unique community. Specifically, the scholarship is intended for students who demonstrate altruism, inclusivity, and insight and are often overlooked by conventional criteria.

Scholarship is a $1,000 cash prize. Deserving students can invest in themselves however they wish; receipts and reimbursements are not needed. The selection committee aims to select a total of four to six students from both the IB (International Baccalaureate) and traditional programs who exemplify humanitarianism, leadership, and intelligence.
Humanitarian
Altruism, compassion, generosity, grace, and humility are some of the qualities this candidate should possess. Community service is practiced continuously, much more than just tasks to log service hours.

Leadership
Influential, inclusive, inspirational, and impactful describe this candidate. Roles for leadership extend far beyond titled positions in student organizations and clubs.

Scholastic
Comprehension, intellect, acumen, prudent, and insightful contribution portray this candidate. Meaningful intelligence may not be captured by standardized test scores or GPA.

Eligibility
Selection
A selection committee of Hillsborough High School teachers, HHS alumni, and the Kalra family will review all completed applications. Incomplete and late applications will be discarded. Qualified applicants will be interviewed via Zoom/Google Meet videochats.
Selected candidates will be asked to submit a portrait photo for online publication, a short bio about themselves, and a short paragraph about their feelings about being selected and how they intend to use the funds. Scholarship awards will be given as to individual students at a presentation. Inability to attend this presentation may result in award cancellation. Scholarship money will disbursed via paper check, Venmo, or Zelle. Please contact Mrs. Wanner or Mr. Paloumpis with any questions.
- Graduating Hillsborough High School seniors
- Minimum 2.5 GPA (unweighted)
- Accepted into an accredited college/university/vocational school
- Legal U.S. resident
